At Calvary Lawrence, we believe the Bible is God's Word, Jesus Christ is Lord, salvation is found in Him, and the Holy Spirit is still at work in His Church today.
We are an Assemblies of God church, rooted in historic Christian faith and committed to the full life of the Spirit described in the New Testament.
We believe God still saves.
God still speaks.
God still fills.
God still heals.
God still transforms.
And Jesus is still building His Church.
We believe the Scriptures are inspired by God and are the trustworthy foundation for what we believe and how we live.
We don't build our faith on culture, preference, personality, or spiritual experience. We build our lives on the truth of God's Word.
We believe there is one true God, eternally revealed as Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.
We believe Jesus Christ is fully God and fully human. He lived without sin, died for us, rose from the dead, and is Lord.
Humanity was created by God but separated from Him through sin. We cannot rescue ourselves.
God came to rescue us.
Through the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ, forgiveness and restored relationship with God are offered to everyone who turns from sin and puts their faith in Jesus.
Salvation is found in Christ.
We believe the Holy Spirit is present and active in the Church today.
We believe in the baptism in the Holy Spirit as an experience following salvation that empowers believers for witness and ministry. We believe the initial physical evidence of this baptism is speaking in tongues, as experienced in the New Testament.
We believe the gifts of the Holy Spirit are for the Church today and should operate with love, humility, biblical order, and discernment.
We don't pursue spiritual experiences for their own sake.
We pursue God.
We believe divine healing is provided through Christ's atoning work and remains a privilege for believers today.
That's why we pray for the sick and believe God can intervene with healing and restoration.
We pray with faith, compassion, and humility, trusting God with every outcome
Following Jesus is more than making a one-time decision.
We believe the Holy Spirit continues His work in us throughout our lives, setting us apart for God and transforming our character to become more like Jesus.
That's why our vision isn't simply to encounter God.
It's to:
Encounter the Holy Spirit.
Become like Christ.
Reflect Him to the world.
The Church isn't a building. It is the Body of Christ, made up of people who have received God's redemption through Jesus.
We gather to worship, pray, learn Scripture, share Communion, encourage one another, use the gifts God has given us, and be equipped to carry the gospel into the world.
We also practice water baptism by immersion as a public declaration of faith in Jesus and Communion as a remembrance of Christ's sacrifice for us.
We believe Jesus Christ will return.
We believe in the blessed hope of Christ gathering His Church, His future return and reign, the final judgment, and God's promise of a new heaven and a new earth.
History is moving toward Jesus.
Our hope isn't ultimately in politics, culture, institutions, or human progress. Our hope is in Christ.
And until He comes, we have a mission.
